What is matza?

Matza is the unleavened bread of the Passover. In the Passover, you likely know that there are 3 matzot that are put into a special bag, the middle one (Afikomen) is broken and half is hidden during the meal, then found and ransomed back during a step called tzafun, meaning hidden or concealed. This is a picture of Jesus, the middle person of the Trinity, broken, buried and rising again. But the matza is special bread. It contains no leaven, because Jesus was without sin. It is baked in fire, striped, and pierced, because Jesus took our severe penalty, was bruised and beaten and whipped, and His side was pierced. Matza was "the way" that the Lamb of God took, leaving His high and holy throne and emptying Himself of His very life, in complete subjection and humility.

And this “way of the Lamb” is what we declare that we are before God, not that we can make ourselves be matza at His feet, but He can work that in us as we yield…...why? Because we are being conformed to the image of Jesus, and are hidden in Him. And that is: no leaven….sinless (repentance is continual), in complete humility….matza is pierced so that it can not puff up (with pride) in the oven…..those who humble themselves will be lifted up in due time (1 Peter 5:6). And broken bread is what feeds the needy, as Jesus showed.

Contrast this with puffed-up, leavened bread of Satan, who self-exalts, imitates and counterfeits, looks beautiful. It puffs from carbon dioxide gas and alcohol, waste products from yeast fermentation, a process where the original nature of the wheat is changed. This bread has much flavour and texture, full of itself and attractive. It appeals to the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, the pride of life.

So we need to get down, down, down in repentance and humility, like matza, because when God’s glory falls, no-one can glory in His Presence, all is exposed in His light, pride cannot stand. His glory divides those who can be alive in His Presence, from those who can not stand before His holiness and must flee.

The glory is coming. The glory of the latter house will be greater than the former, the Bible says. God is moving, and things are changing. I am sure you feel it, see it. We need to be ready for what is coming. We need to be matza.

Without Him, we can do nothing, nothing at all. But we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. He is your strength today.

If we want to be lifted up to be the light on the hill to this city and see revival, we need to get completely DOWN, flat, at His feet. If we want to be ready for His glory to come, we need to be found in and abide in Jesus, and follow His way.

Be matza!
