New life comes from seeds.

Two pots of nutrient-rich soil can sit in the sunshine and receive ample water. One soon has a green sprout, which grows into a healthy plant, while the other has nothing. No seed had been planted in the second one.

A woman produces an ovum monthly, but months and years of cycles go by with no baby. Only when fertilized by a man's seed, does a new life begin, and grow.

Every human is born physically into this world. Every human has a heart...but it is not until a spiritual seed is planted into a heart, that new life can begin in it, and grow. This is called being born again, a spiritual birth. The seed is the Word of God. Jesus Himself, is that Word, that Seed.

If a seed is not planted into a heart, no new spiritual life can grow, no matter how much nurturing and care is given. If many seeds of the Word are planted and nurtured, soon there will be a garden.

Bad seed can also be planted, producing a noxious weed, a field of weeds, good for nothing.

The Scriptures talk much about seeds, plants, crops, weeds, harvesting, seasons, and hearts. It talks about reaping what one sows, scattering good seed liberally to produce a bountiful harvest. It talks about God's Word not returning empty when planted, but producing an expected harvest. It covers topics like breaking up the fallow (hard) ground of the heart so seed can grow, and having a good heart, not crowded with weeds, not rocky where seeds can't become rooted.

All creation glorifies God, and by observing amazing phenomena such as the life that springs forth from a seed, we can better understand the mystery of spiritual life. Life begins with a seed. Life begins with Jesus.
