Treasure

What is your treasure? Give the treasure of your heart to the Lord. How do you know what your treasure is? That’s easy…
Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Whatever your heart cherishes, nurtures, gets excited about, holds close as being precious, is your treasure.
Give this treasure to the Lord, and in its place, revere the Lord Himself as your treasure.
When you give your treasure to the Lord, it will remain to be seen what He does with it…keep it, give it back, return it multiplied, use it in some way.
It can be hard, costly, to give away that which we love so much.
Why do we give God our treasure? Because we love Him more than we love the treasure.
Matthew 10:37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
Matthew 13:46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
The word treasure in Hebrew is otzar. If you have read my blog entitled, "Mitzraim", you will remember that the root word "tzar" means a narrow tight place, and the word for treasure is related, because it pictures something of value tightly wrapped or stored in a safe, secure place. It can refer to something held tightly, worn around the waist with a belt, or kept in a protected storage place.
Treasure in the heart can become an idol if we hold onto the gift more than honouring the Giver of all gifts.
Scriptural example: Abraham was willing to give God his son Isaac. God spared and gave back Isaac and provided a sacrifice Himself.
God has a treasure. His treasure is His Son Jesus. God gave us His treasure, Jesus’ life, broken for us. Why? Because He loves us that much.
Consider this love He has for you.
